first cornrows!

On Sunday a group of ethnic hair care professionals came over from Blessings salon in Eugene to teach a class on caring for African hair. They presented some helpful information as well as talked about products and provided appointments after the class for styling. Weredesh received her FIRST cornrows! And man, they looked cute. (notice how I used past tense?) Yeah, that was only two days ago, and I must say they already look horrible. We won't be doing that anytime soon - at least not until her hair grows thicker and longer. Her hair is so fine and fuzzy that it worked its way right out of those cute little braids and now I'm already needing to take them out. $25 for two days of a hairstyle is a bit much for my bank account.

But the experience was totally worth it. She was a STAR client - the lady that did her braids said she's by far the best 2 yr. old she's ever braided. Most little ones end up in tears or screaming, but Weredesh just sat there like a champ, like she'd been doing this for years. However, I DO comb out her hair every morning and do some kind of style, so this was a piece of cake for her. She of course loved all the attention and lollipops. :) There will be a braiding class in Eugene in May so I'm going to try to sign up for it to further develop my skills. I love doing her hair!

Check out these adorable pics:

One of the ladies brought her daughter, Ramaya, who was totally obsessed with Weredesh. They had a great time. Isn't she gorgeous!

Weredesh in her night cap. These help to eliminate frizzies and maintain moisture, but didn't help too much with the braids. Her hair is just too fine yet. She likes wearing her caps though! They're great for just playing around the house and while eating, since she only gets her hair washed once a week, and two year olds tend to get food in their hair.

Vacation pics coming soon if I ever get my butt in gear!
