Officially Waiting!

We received an email from Radu saying they received our dossier back from D.C. and sent it out to Ethiopia yesterday where it will be translated, registered, and then officially waiting for a referral (assignment of a baby)!  We also received a letter from the National Visa Center acknowledging that they've received our I-600A approval and that it's "been forwarded to the appropriate visa-issuing post where the adoption interview will take place" in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Sounds good to me!

You'll absolutely need Hep A (b/c if adults get Hep A, they tend to become quite sick). You'll need to make sure you have your tetanus up to date (and Tdap is typically the way it's administered). If you've had all of your normal American childhood vax, then it's quite possible you're immune to MMR and polio, varicella. Hep B you'll need (and it's a series of 3 sequential shots), but some people get this as adults if they work in healthcare, for instance.

Addis is at altitude, so yellow fever and malaria aren't a concern (but only if you stay in Addis). Wander out of town, and you'll be exposed to both. Typhoid is only partially effective, so you still have to eat safe...and you may get the disease anyway (so some choose not to bother with it).

What else? Meningiococcal is recommended if you travel in december, or later (especially with children).

In short, there are certainly some shots you should consider getting if you haven't already had either the disease, nor the vaccine...
