Not sure how many of you caught the spot on American Idol (you know I never miss a single episode!) the other night about the two sisters trying to find each other in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The story was gripping and brought me to tears. The video focused on the destitute situation there, millions of children living without parents or on the streets. Next week will be the show's annual Idol Gives Back event where their goal is to raise millions of dollars to support countries like Ethiopia. I encourage you to watch on Wednesday, April 9th at 7:30. Here's the link to the preview video of the show:
Traveling to Ethiopia will most likely be the most intense, eye-opening event of our lives. I hope I'm mentally capable of handling what I could possibly see there. Makes me nervous for sure, but I have to keep in mind that we will be bringing home a child that would most likely end up in a similar situation. Seems like such a small gesture that won't even make the slightest dent in the multitude of problems this country is facing. Wish we could all do more!
To that end, our immigration paperwork is on the way, and we're just waiting to receive our fingerprinting appointment. : )
