Well, we're back from our quick trip to Portland for our Homestudy, and it went really well! WHEW! This was well-needed, because WOW, what a week WE had! Between losing Cody, Cory's truck dying on Friday (we think the engine is toast - ugh) and having to prepare for our interview, we were fried by the time Sunday came around!
We headed to Portland yesterday, stayed with our good friend Nancy in Vancouver, and then got up this morning to meet with the social worker handling our adoption. (By the way, we all saw the new U23D movie - it was amazing!) We arrived at Mary's office Sunday morning at 9:30 and were there talking with her for over 3 hours. It all went amazingly well...she was really easy to talk to - a very sweet lady with nothing but positive things to say about us. We spoke about everything...our childhoods, friends, family, marriage, painful moments, happy moments, parenting philosophy, adoption issues, and more. She was thrilled to learn all about our lives, and she had a very interesting life as well, having adopted 6 children internationally. After 3 hours of talking together, we each had to interview separately for about 5 minutes. She basically just wanted to be sure that neither person wanted to back out (WHAT!?!)(It's just a formality) and to talk with us individually about how we feel about one another. Well, THAT was easy. :) We enjoyed talking with her, and we left there feeling very lucky - pouring out all the details of our lives made us again realize how lucky we are to have such wonderful friends and family and how fortunate we have been to be able to experience so much in our lives! She said "you're going to make wonderful parents!" YAY!
So...she will write our report and email it to us in the next week or so to look over. She still needs to get out to our house and will do that in the next couple of weeks. So right now we're waiting for the Homestudy to be completed and we need to receive all of our requested documents back in the mail (criminal clearance, birth certificates, marriage certificate, etc.) so we can move on to the next paperwork step. YAY! ; ~) While we're standing by the mailbox, I'm going to send over to the agency what we have completed so far (which is pretty much everything!) and they will look through it to make sure everything is done properly.
On the way back from Portland, we stopped at grandma's house to borrow the Caddy so that Cory has a car for the week, and her and Grandpa Mike are over the moon with this baby we haven't even received a referral for yet. I thought she was going to explode! :) Mike kept saying "Slow down Dotty!" hee hee...She's bought some baby clothes and Mike painted a painting for the baby room! Slow down is right! But, what would we do without our family and friends!!!
