adoption ceremony

On Monday we (finally) had our adoption ceremony at the Deschutes County courthouse. It was a small intimate ceremony where the judge read some REALLY touching words that brought me to tears. (I think I will put that in another post.) They were surprised that we didn't have a huge showing with cameras and lots of people, which I think is more typical, but we chose to just keep it private and intimate. And I'm glad we did. It was special and memorable. :) They absolutely fell in LOVE with Weredesh (who wouldn't???) and even let her sit on the witness stand and on the judge's bench with the gavel! Judge Forte was ever so gracious and I could tell he has a sweet spot for little ones. And Weredesh had a hell of a good time, as usual. I swear she can make ANY occasion fun.

hmmm...not sure why those last three photos came out so grainy, darnit.

Now our next steps are to go to the Social Security office and get her status changed from resident alien to U.S. citizen. In order to do that we need to apply for a certificate of citizenship. And then we need to get her a U.S. passport as well. The paperwork never ends...

But then again, I'd fill out mountains of paperwork until the end of time for this little peanut.
