Sengatera

While we were in Portland this weekend at our friends' wedding we visited an area which contains several Ethiopian restaurants and markets, with the intention to try Ethiopian food for the first time.  Our friends Craig & Chrissy led us up MLK Blvd. and took us to this little hole in the wall called Sengatera.  I've tried to find the meaning of Sengatera online but the most I can come up with is that Sengatera is a community or area of Addis Ababa (correct me if I'm wrong).  The food was so good!  We had the staple bread injera (an Ethiopian flat bread that is fermented) with a veggie combo - many different vegetarian dishes served over the injera.  Look at the beautiful presentation - there was SO MUCH food!!!

We were all SO stuffed when we left.  The injera has a spongy texture and I feel like it expanded in my belly.  :)  Here's some of the other dishes, all served with injera:

A collard greens dish

Lamb curry

Spicy beef curry

Injera

And of course, Ethiopian beer.  :)

It looks good! So many referrals went out today from Radu. He is really on a roll. I don't know if you are on the Adoption Avenues yahoo group, but if you want to sign up, let me know. Congratulations again!

That looks so interesting and yummy. I think we should seek out some rad Ethiopian restaurants in Amsterdam, don't you? :)
